Let’s Roll 🛼

My inbox is FILLED with cannabis industry emails.

Most of them are mediocre at best.

The problem is, there’s very little personalization, relevancy, or anything else that would make these emails stand out among the hundreds of discount-spamming campaigns we’re used to.

Spamming discounts everyday will work for the small percentage of customers whose purchases are only based on who has the lowest prices.

But that’s only one section of your audience.

The majority of your customer’s will engage more with personalized, valuable, and exclusive content than they will with discount codes for a product that they don’t even use…

Here’s 5 of the best email strategies that drive action, engagement, and sales:

1. Personalize Like a Pro:

Forget “Dear Customer.”

Use customer data to greet your customers by name, reference their last purchase, or nudge them along the purchase process.

Use progressive profiling (gathering information on your customers by asking preference questions over time instead of all at once) to collect information on their favorite products, usage intent, and experience level.

Then, use this info to create relevant, and personalized

  • Recommendations

  • Subject lines

  • CTA’s.

"Hey [First Name], still thinking about that [Product]? Let's make it official."

2. Educate and Enlighten:

Your subscribers are on a journey with cannabis, and you're their guide.

Share knowledge, tips, and stories that enlighten them.

When you offer value beyond the sale, you're not just a dispensary; you're a trusted advisor.

  • Strain guides

  • Terp guides

  • Cannabis history

  • Customer stories

  • Infused cookbooks

There’s so much you can provide for your audience; make it valuable, make it actionable, and most importantly, make it unique.

3. Urgency Without the Pressure:

Use urgency that feels exclusive, not pushy.

An invite to an early release or a special batch just for email subscribers can create that click-worthy momentum.

4. Leverage Social Proof:

Social proof is one of the most powerful tools in your marketing arsenal.

Showing real-life examples of customers using and enjoying your products naturally reduces hesitancy and increases your customer’s willingness to buy.

This is especially crucial in the cannabis industry, where product quality and safety are top concerns for consumers.

Including social proof in emails can reassure subscribers that they are making a wise choice by trusting your brand.

5. Clear CTA’s:

Every email should have a clear next step. Whether it's learning more about a strain, taking advantage of a sale, or joining a loyalty program, make it pop.

Your CTA is the bridge between interest and action.

“Shop Now” can work just fine, but if you really wanna drive action, you need to be more specific.

Tell them exactly what they’ll get for taking that next step.

What You Can Do Today:

Start by auditing your current email strategy. Which of these strategies are you already using, and which are untapped opportunities?

Test one new approach in your next email and measure the response (be sure to only test one element at a time for better analytics).

Once you find a strategy or element that’s working, double-down on it.

Remember, the best strategies are those refined over time through real-world results.

That’s the fun part about marketing! Testing different strategies and finding what works best for your audience strengthens the connection between your brand and your customers (and the payoff is insane).

Happy emailing!
